Carrefour is the silent zombie who guards the crossroads in Val Lewton and Jacques Tourneur's film. The film leaves open whether its zombies are the work of a houngan or of illness. Stylus Magazine ranked it the fifth-best zombie film of all time, and scholars read Carrefour as an image tied to slavery.1
