Stuart Gordon's film is set at Miskatonic University, where medical student Herbert West uses a reagent to reanimate the dead. The revived are violent, and a rival doctor's severed head goes on talking and scheming. The film has been reappraised as a classic of the zombie genre, and its real success came on home video.1
